Last week we received a few more videos from the kinder kids over at Promise Road Elementary, as well as a video of them telling us what they had learned from our paper slide videos. We thought it would be nice to say thank you by making a video of our own explaining what we had learned from them and to say thanks. We had fun making the video and think it looks pretty cool. You can watch it below.
In the last week of term we got to put all of our hard work and learning together and finally create our paper slide videos. Below you can see all of our finished works. Unfortunately, a couple of members from The Platypuses were sick on the last few days so they didn't get to shoot their video before the end of the week. They'll get a chance to film when school goes back so that we can celebrate the end of the project. We've had a lot of fun learning about Australian animals this term and we think the videos are pretty cool too. We hope you enjoy our paper slide videos as much as we have enjoyed making them! It's getting closer to the day when we will need to record our video for the Promise Road Kinder Panthers. As we have learned, and as is always the case with project-based learning, we have different groups at different stages of the project. Some are just starting to design their slides after completing their storyboards, some have nearly finished their slides, and two groups have made it to the stage where they can start practising for the shoot. You only get one take, so practising is very important. Today we set up the tripod and camera and the groups that were ready started practising their lines. It's tricky to remember everything so each person in each group is only allocated up to two slides to speak over. Mr. Hewes thinks that some of us may be ready to record by tomorrow if we are able to find the time. We think they will look really cool! We had a little bit of time this afternoon to start drafting the opening slides to our paper slide videos for the Promise Road Kinder Panthers. We know that it's important to address our audience, so we made some title slides with the words "Hello Promise Road Kinder Panthers" and included some artwork about the animals we've been researching. Mr. Hewes thinks it's a great start and can't wait to see what else we can come up with. We'll need to work on making our writing really easy to read and understand and making our artworks as interesting as we possibly can! What do you think? With all of our newfound knowledge of Australian animals and paper slide videos, it was time to start planning our own. Firstly, we decided in our groups which Australian animal we would choose to make our video about. Our groups' final decisions are below. The kangaroos group chose to make a video about the koala, the wombats chose the wombat, the platypuses chose the kangaroo, the dingoes chose the bilby and the bilbies chose the saltwater crocodile. How confusing! We started planning using the planner below, available here: Two out of the five groups managed to plan their videos and complete their storyboard, with pictures and all. You can see them below. We think that our final videos are going to be epic!
So we've been researching and learning heaps about Australian animals. We wrote down the information we gathered and Mr. Hewes put it all into a presentation that we've been referring to in class. It became apparent that we're quickly running out of time as we head toward the end of term, so we decided we should start making our paper slide videos for the Promise Road Kinder Panthers. This means that we have had to learn more stuff in order to make our videos. After revising some of what we knew about Australian animals, we watched a few videos in class and discussed all of the things we needed to know and do to make our own videos as awesome as possible. You can see our classroom cinema set up below, Mr. Hewes really should have set up the bean bags like he did last time, what a meanie! We'll get to set up the cinema again, probably when we've finished our own videos so that we can watch them and celebrate our learning. The first video we watched was an Indigenous Australian dreamtime story about how the platypus became the wonderful creature that we know and love today. You can see it below. We then watched a paper slide video made by some year 1 kids in America. This helped us understand what a paper slide video is and that even younger kids can make them too. We then watched a quick video on how to make a paper slide video of our own. Last Friday 2/3P and their teacher Miss Passerman, Mr. Hewes and some kids from stage 3 got together, dressed as Australian animals and crept into the year 1 rooms to put on a surprise performance of 'Funky Zoo' - a song written by Miss Passerman's dad, who came with his guitar to join the performance, all about nocturnal animals. It was a lot of fun! Mr. Hewes was dressed as an echidna, Miss Passerman was dressed as a kangaroo, and there were some kids from years 5 & 6 dressed as wombats, koalas and kookaburras! You can watch a video of the performance below. We think Mr. Hewes should have practised before the performance because he clearly didn't know the moves very well! We've been doing a lot of inquiry into Australian animals with our peers in stage 3 for our project-learning lately. Below you can see a compilation of everything our groups have been doing. Some groups have less animals posted on here because they decided to research the same animals as some of the other groups during research time. Each animal has been given one 'slide' a with all of our group research combined. Wow, we've learned a lot! Last week, as part of our Awesome Aussie Animals project we were lucky enough to connect with a kindergarten class from Noblesville, Indiana. This lovely group of students attend Promise Road Elementary, which is a newly established pilot project-based learning school, about two years old. Like us, the kids over in Noblesville are learning about local wildlife. So we decided it would be a cool idea to become each others audiences for the work we'll be doing. They made us an introductory video which you can see below. It was great to see how much we're going to learn from them about wildlife over in America and how much we will be able to teach them about Australian wildlife when we get around to making our paper slide videos about Australian animals! Below you can see our introductory video in which we show the kids from Promise Road Elementary a little bit of our school and tell them about our group names. Enjoy! :-) |
