Another thing we've been learning about in the last few days has been comparing the areas of different 2D spaces. We started by comparing and discussing the areas of different things around the classroom. We decided quite unanimously that an the front cover of an exercise book most definitely covered a larger area than an old whiteboard eraser that we found lying around. We also decided that the LEGO base we use to build houses and stuff on definitely covered a larger area than both the exercise book cover and the old whiteboard eraser. We then discussed and compared the differences in area of a whole bunch of things and Mr. Hewes was quite sure that we'd nailed out, so we went out to do some art and compare the areas of our hand prints.
We've been having a lot of fun with our learning about area and we're going to be pasting some more of our handprints together to make spiky echidnas as part of our Awesome Australian Animals project. You can see the beginning stage of the compilation of our echidna artworks below!
